Re: [noonan_support] Hi

thats great advice! I was trying not to worry yet as Owen is 7 mos. but its good to know for the future. I have has several adults ask me whats wrong with him??? that hurts but we got thru it. We just found out for sure that he has NS, but it was mentioned a few weeks ago that it was a possibility. Can I ask why they decided to do surgery on his heart? Im just asking because Owens Card. said that he doesnt need it now they are just going to watch him. Thanks!

Subject: Re: [noonan_support] Hi

Hi,
My son Ryan has NS, he is 6 years old.  My son was dx as a baby by a genticist.  He has Pulmonary Valve Stenosis, Woffle Parkinson White Syndrome, Hearing loss, terrible dry skin -makes his face very red, nearsightedness and sensory issues.

We just went thru our first surgery for his heart this past December 6th, and everything went smoothly.

As far as my son goes, I have always intsilled in him, that everyone is different and there is not 2 people on this earth who are
exactly alike.  I tell him to be proud of himself, he even chose "blue" hearing aids, and multicolored earmolds this past year, when he draws pictures of himself he includes the blue hearing aids and glasses!!!  As far as school goes, I make it a point to go into the classroom each year and talk to the kids about Ryan, kids are quite blunt and will ask anything, but I feel getting their questions answered early on, makes it easier for both Ryan and his classmates to adjust to eachother.  Ryan is still a little young, and he has not yet experienced any bullying, (besides what he gets from his brothers!)but I tell him over and over again just as I tell my other 'typical' kids that bullying is 'unacceptable' and if it happens to you or you see another kid getting bullied you must tell someone.

I think self love and self acceptance is going to be the key in bringing up our kids.  Unconditional love from the people who mean the most to our
children, I feel will help them get thru this cruel world.

All my best,
Debbie
