I will try...just e-mail me back if you need more info...
SSI is supplement income for disability. It is quite a maze to navigate through, however, I recommend you proceed (assuming you have time, a good place to organize all the information you will need/receive, and a lot of patience). Basically, you are asked to prove that your childs disability is great enough to warrent receiving money from the gov. There is a phone interview and a lot of paperwork once you get through that door. When our baby was born with multiple heart conditions (ASD, VSD, etc.) and severe feeding issues (failure to thrive, G-tube), I ended up needing to stay home full time...thus dropping our income drastically. So long as you have good communication with your son's doc's and again, lot's of patience, I believe it is worth it. We received back pay (it took 6 months for them to approve our son's case) which was put into a separate account for anything pertaining to your childs' needs or, in our case, towards a car when our
car suddenly died and left us unable to get to the doc's, etc.). Our son still does not have a diagnosis, so I do believe it is possible to receive money...I'm amazed at how much I've learned about writing down everyone's name, their title, etc. The whole 'you will be your child's greatest advocate' really starts here, in my opinion...there and at the doctor's office. Please let me know if I can be of any more help...I have saved most of the important phone numbers...Good luck, and do follow through with it, any help is help, no? -Madeline
