Dear Jennifer and Louise,
Sorry to hear of your suffering, and it must be frustrating on top of
painful! As moms, it is so hard to be down or unable to get things
done as before. Not that it isn't for dads too, but somehow you
realize how important you are to your family when these things come
up! It must be so stressful. My husband and I do not carry the
genetics for NOMID, but my husband has hada lot of problems over the
past few years with foot pains, and then he developed progressive pain
in his hands, that now radiates up to his arms and front of his chest,
near his shoulders.
They say it is nothing but"Repetitive Stress Injuries" in his hands
and arms, but I have been questioning that! He got the foot pains
maybe 4 years ago, and got orthotics, etc, that helped, but he still
hasa ton of pain if he stands and walks a lot like at amusement parks,
or something. The arm issue is really a problem, and since he is a
graphic designer and works with his hands all the time, it is very
concerning. He has not quit work, and has done many therqapy
sessions, accupuncture, etc, to no avail. The doctors so far have no
answers, and I am trying to get him into a specialist, since he has
only been working with the workmen's compensation doctors (for work
related injuries) and they are not very good.
I am going to have him read all these posts, and maybe it will help
the cause for him to get more evaluations. He is not a fan of
doctors, but needs to get some help! Luckily, he is working mostly as
an art director, and has people under him doing most of the computer
work now, but he wants to be able to do what he loves, and start
painting for fun at home again, and it is too painful.
His mom has neuropathy issues, and is alsois diabetic, so we all
thought that was the cause of her severe neuropathy pain. She was
really bad for years, but then got an electric stimulation device that
hooks up electrodes to the feet, and within 3 months was almost
completely cured of her pain! It is for neuropathy, and you have to
do it for awhile to get results. The company is
www.ReBuilderMedical.com and you may even find it elsewhere (eBay
perhaps??). She has let a lot of other people borrow it too, and they
have had improvement too with their pain issues. My husband tried it
one day, but he does not have neuropathy (at least from what everyone
says he doesn't) so it did not make a difference, but he only did it
once, since he doesn't like the stimulation feeling at all. For his
mom with neuropathy, it changed her life from terrible pain to almost
free of pain, and she was really suffering.
Good luck to you all, and I hope that you feel better soon!
