Jan. 04 - A study being conducted by Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center
and the Nijmegen Parkinson Center of The Netherlands is one of five to
be awarded a grant by the US National Parkinson Foundation?s Falls
Prevention Initiative. The study will validate devices aimed at
measuring both the quality and quantity of activity patterns while
patients move in their own environment during a prolonged time period.
NPF awards grants to study new evidence-based interventions aimed at
preventing falls in people with Parkinson's disease. Falls are a common
and devastating consequence of Parkinson's disease and have an enormous
impact on the physical and mental well-being of affected patients.
Preliminary results of all five studies will be presented in December
of 2009 at the annual National Parkinson Foundation Centers Leadership
Conference.
