Hi:
I'm Jeff, for me PD first appeared in 1993. I've been up and down
many times, but I've never given up. Recently, I used all my
determination to get back on permax (thank you Tina for your support).
My PD took a major reversal again. My life is beginning again, and I
have even begun to date. My next hurdle is uncertainty over DBS: my
doctors are really pushing the surgery, and I'm scared to death. I
know that the large amounts of drugs that I've taken for so many years
are not good for me, but I am terrified to have the operation, and the
risks (while statistically small) are alot for me to get passed. I've
focused and strengthen my mind using a card game called bridge. It
has been a god send, and I am a nationally ranked player for my
category of player. Bridge has so strengthened my cognitive skills,
that my doctors have no concern about parkinsons-related dementia.
Competing at a national level is so important to me, and DBS could
affect my extreme-concentration ability. I would welcome advice
Jeff
