Once again it's time to relive last weekends DRUMS from HEAVEN. It's always nice to take the time to absorb and meditate on all that transpired. Let me begin by saying to all of you people who came to help set up and stayed to break down how much I appreciate your assistance. You really showed a community effort!
Earth Dance 2009 had it's own special aura. I feel we really were able to explore many different cultures of drum and dance. This, and raising $$$ for charity is what makes DRUMS from HEAVEN unique from other drum circles.
We enjoyed some free style jamming to open our day. Many different drums were featured at the circle with a wide variety of players. Experience did not matter, we all jelled together nicely.
The Brazilian Samba group Mais Um came marching in from the street, right on thru the crowd and onto the dance floor. You could see they came in energized. People began to dance around their music. Everyone was wearing a happy face :0). They gave us a great performance. Thank you to Claudio and all the members!
I decided to welcome the crowd with what has become an annual tradition for our Earth Day celebration by reading my poem The  Earth Dance. I thank Evans for adding some spicy flute melodies to my reading.

 THE  EARTH  DANCE
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
Rains from the sky dampen our ground.
Sprouting blades of bluegrass all around.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
The sun is coming, full of warmth and light.
Fragrant flowers appear, so colorful and bright.
Everyone's invited to the Earth dance.
Beautiful butterfly's bob and weave.
Leaving us awestruck before they leave.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
The sound of chirping birds can be heard as they sing,
a wonderful symphony, that lasts all spring.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
As we look out into the ocean's blue,
You can see soooo many fish dancing too.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
Walking through the forest, seeing natures best,
confirms my belief we must protect our nest.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
To continue this dance we must preserve our air.
Find ways to change things and show we care.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.
As brothers and sisters please do what you can,
to save our planet, so we can dance again.
Everyone's invited to the earth dance.

Next came a new member to  D.F.H. to lead an Afro Cuban segment. Marco, got the crowd going and was backed up by Mais Um and some of our own Latin style players. He played and danced amidst the crowd. You could hear everyone's shakers and Go-go bells as we all joined in the celebration. Thanks Marco, for making even more happy faces :0)

It was then time to take a break for some wonderful food donated by Inserra Supermarkets. We feasted on tasty fruit and veggie trays along with cheese and crackers.
This was also the time to raise some money with our raffle prize give away. I am so thankful to all of you who donated prizes. We gave away over $2500. in prizes!
Before we resumed, the V.F.W. Commander came out to present a very large donation of $1000. from their members towards our fundraiser. I am so happy we have such a great relationship with these fine men and women. They have always given us generous donations. Thank you and bless you all!
Always expect a high energy performance by Sigi. This time around Sigi brought with her some of her "Little Angels," her students aged 6 to 10. The kids drew a lot of applause for their dance ability at such a young age. Sigi has these kids going in the right direction!
She also had some of her own guest belly dancers come out and knock us out with their belly dancing. They gave us a captivating show including a little fire dance. Sigi added her balancing sword act to her dance. All told, the women were awesome! Thanks Ladies!!!
Luis followed this up by leading a Middle Eastern part which kept the belly dancers going and brought out some great Doumbek playing accompanied by an Ude player. It was another nice alteration to the drum circle. Thanks Luis!
Another short break to give away our 2 grand prizes. Someone won a stereo entertainment system and of course the last prize is always a percussion instrument, this time around was a set of conga drums won by Pauls wife.Congrats to our 2 big winners!
To lead us into the final hour of free style jamming, a dozen of us broke into a song I wrote using the Bo Diddley beat called "Play your Drums Don't Fade away." I sang from the stage, on que each new instrument was induced into the jam as I invited them in., till all 12
were involved. Then I asked the whole place to jump in and we rocked the house!!! If you were there, you know the words ...if not , guess you'll have to come next time!
As our last hour progressed you could feel the tempo rising higher and higher. I'm sure all who attended left with some kind of happy memory. Which brings me to asking you to help me out with a thought, comment or a memory you would like to share about your DRUMS from HEAVEN experience.
The most important thing we all shared was the ability to communicate with our instruments and our style of dance. About 175 people came out on a beautiful day for our Earth Day celebration. You are all unique and I truly appreciate you coming to be part of D.F.H. Of course your generosity in sharing some of your money to help our 2 charities was again very evident. With your love and support and donations we were able to
raise a total of.......
drummmmm rollllllllll ~~~~~   $ 4000. !!!   WOW!!! I'm impressed!
I'd like to close with  a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out and had a great time and to all who donated their time, talent and treasures. You all make DRUMS from HEAVEN worth while. I love you all!
If you missed us this time, please look forward to our annual Halloween costume ball
on October 31'st. Last years was a blast!
