There are many new people entering the drumming community as it evolves into many new areas in society. It makes me happy to see percussion sounds being used in music therapy programs. I've seen it used for special needs students. Nordoff Robbins uses percussion and other instruments for some of their treatments. Hospitals have therapeutic programs which sometimes involve drumming.
For those of us who have experienced a drum circle we know the rewarding feeling we all get when we participate. We get energized, we get relaxed. We forget about our busy lives while we drum. Some of us meditate and focus on their inner being. Others feel the rhythms penetrate through their bodies. Some of us connect through drum and dance. The most important thing we are doing is communicating and making one another feel good.
I've been asked by some "newbies" about drum circles and what is DRUMS from HEAVEN?
The people who come together at DRUMS from HEAVEN are all special. They are YOU! We are people who care about other peoples needs. We drum and dance for the fun of it, we make each other happy and while we do this we try and help raise money for a worthy cause. We are Heavenly drummers!
Our next DRUMS from HEAVEN happening on Oct. 5'th has some very special meaning to me.
First it will be a pleasure to do this drum circle at Parisi's Health Fitness Sports Club. They have been very instrumental in donating prizes to raffle at our previous events. They have shown that they are people who care. Now we can show them how we care and share. This drum circle will hopefully bring out many people.
We are hoping to promote breast cancer awareness. There will be some educational material available.
Some inspirational speaking by some cancer survivors will also take place. The other reason this night will mean a lot to me is my sister Kathie is one of those survivors. I admire her courage to persevere. I also lost my Mom to this dreaded disease. So please come out and support the American Cancer Society as we try and raise some money to help FIND A CURE.
Even if you can only come for one hour you can make a difference. If you prefer not to drum that is OK too. Just come enjoy the sights and sounds. If you like to dance, any styles are welcome. Flyer below.
Also, again please forward this to PEOPLE WHO CARE.
Sing on Brother...Play on Drummer... Thank you, TommyPurpleHaze
