A message about an important presentation happening in the University

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Dear friends,

The Iraq War has entered its sixth year at an enormous cost in terms of
American and Iraqi lives lost and injuries, displaced persons and
refugees, and a financial drain which threatens a depression in the U.S.

With our presidential election less than nine months away and new
leadership to be chosen, no clear vision of ending this catastrophe has
emerged. Many in our country and in most other countries doubt that the
U.S. political establishment will undertake the steps necessary to allow
Iraq's citizens to live with dignity and basic human rights.

I would like to invite you to attend the Seattle April 3rd presentation by
former UN Assistant Secretary General, Hans von Sponeck on A Peace Plan
for Iraq, formulated by a group of Europeans. Particulars of the program,
which will also consider the plight of Iraqi refugees, are shown below.

Sincerely,

Dick Blakney Advocacy Chair, United Nations Association Seattle

TO ATTEND AN IMPORTANT PRESENTATION
A Peace Plan for Iraq
Thursday, April 3, 2008, 7:00 pm
University Temple United Methodist Church
1415 NE 43rd Street, Seattle 98105

Hans von Sponeck, former Assistant Secretary General of the United
Nations, served the UN for over 30 years. In 2000, in protest of the
economic sanctions, he resigned his post as UN Humanitarian Coordinator in
Iraq. Since that time, he has worked continuously to bring peace and
justice to the Iraqi people. He comes to Seattle to present the Plan for
Peace that has been circulating in Europe and will now be told in the
Northwest.

Mr. von Sponeck will be joined by the UNA-Seattle sponsored group which
recently went to Syria that will report on the current situation for Iraq
refugees.

Co-sponsors: Interfaith Network of Concern for the People of Iraq,
Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, Western Washington
Fellowship of Reconciliation, Church Council of Greater Seattle, Northwest
International Health Action Coalition, Network Opposing War with Iran,
Peace Action Washington, University Temple UMC Church & Society Team.

No admission fee will be charged, but a free-will offering will be
collected to cover costs. All persons are welcome to attend.
