An Evening of Film and Discussion
Palestinian Narratives: Accounts of the Effects of Occupation
When: Friday, June 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Where: Student Activity Center, Seattle Central Community College, 1718
Broadway Avenue, room 208 (between E. Pine St. and E. Denny Way -on the
east side of street, by student bookstore)
Films will be preceded and followed by short presentations by Amineh Ayyad,
and a facilitated discussion/Q&A together with Erin Wade of Palestine Solidarity
Committee.
In the Spider’s Web. 2004. 47 min. Director: Hanna Musleh. Produced by
Al-Haq, Palestinian human rights organization.
In the Spider’s Web is part of Al-Haq’s campaign to stop collective
punishment against Palestinian civilians by the Israeli Occupying Forces
in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In the film, an understanding of
this issue is gained primarily through the moving personal accounts of
two women, with additional footage including a typical day in the lives
of the students at Qurtaba girls school in Hebron’s old city.
Dying to Live. 2002. 10 min. Producer/Director: Amineh Ayyad, board
member of Friends of Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS)
Dying to Live provides footage and incisive analytical commentary by
expert Palestinian medical and mental health professionals on the effects
of the Occupation and its attendant violence and deprivation on the
development of Palestinian children.
Commentators include Dr. Eyad El Sarraj, founder and Director General of
the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme; and Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi,
founder of The Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees/Palestinian
Medical Relief Society (PMRS).

This evening of films and discussion is co-sponsored by Palestine
Solidarity Committee-Seattle, Friends of Palestinian Medical Relief Society
and the International Socialist Organization.
