Seattle demands a SURGE in Peace, not Troops   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #468 of 629 |

The US president will make his case for a surge in US troops in Iraq this
week, and much of the US population seems to have a different idea about
what to do. The following message describes a nationwide surge of
disapproval - and the Seattle event will begin at our own UW in Red
Square. If you would also like to voice that opinion - think about
attending. It may be cold, it may be wet - but it will not be as
uncomfortable it is every day for those now enduring the violence in Iraq,
be they US troops or Iraqi families.

Here is the information from the web site you can link to below:

Where: Gather at Red Square, University of Washington Campus. March to the
military recruiting center on 45th St, in the U-District (west of
Roosevelt near kinkos, 810 NE 45th St, Seattle, WA 98105-4713.

This Wednesday, President Bush will give his "new direction in
Iraq" speech. He wants to increase the number of men and women
sent to Iraq, even though we just elected a new Congress to help
get us out of there. We have to make it clear that Americans do
NOT want more troops in Iraq and we have to act fast!

So this Thursday, in response to his speech, people across the
country are coming together to tell both the President and
Congress that Americans do NOT want more troops in Iraq. Can you
attend one of these events?

Events are springing up all over the country, but there's always
room for more. If you don't see an event in your area, you can
host your own. They're easy and we've done most of the legwork
for you -- compiling an event kit that is chock full of
information, tips, and tools to make each event a success. Click
below to host an event this Thursday -- and be sure to advertise
it to all your friends and neighbors.

And this is just the beginning. At the end of the month, we'll
be joining the Peace and Justice community in a March on
Washington and delivering the Mandate for Peace petition,
calling on Congress to get out of Iraq.
