Using Community-Based Approaches to Meet the Challenges of the Millennium
Development Goals in Health
Saturday, November 4, 2006
Convention Center
Boston, Massachusetts
8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Jean Meyer Capps, Facilitator
In the 30 years since Alma Ata, global health professionals have
diligently worked to develop successful community-based maternal and child
health strategies and link them with the formal health sector. HIV/AIDS
has further emphasized the critical importance of developing practical and
replicable methodologies. Adoption of the Millennium Development Goals
emphasizes the need to build on the practical lessons learned in these
programs. Success has largely come from strategies that are able to
surmount obstacles common to most public health programs in developing
countries. Our presenters will share how they tackled these common
problems, what lessons they learned in the process, and what advice they
have for others who are facing similar problems. Sessions will be highly
interactive. Participants from all levels of public health experience, from
students to highly seasoned professionals, are welcome. Registration for
the APHA Annual Meeting is not required.
Presenters include:
Iain Aitken, Management Sciences for Health, Community REACH project,
