Women’s reproductive health is
adversely affected by pharmacists’ refusal to dispense birth
control. Many of us have worked in family planning programs out of the
country and understand that access to family planning information and services
improves the lives of women, their families and their society. Please
read the information below about the upcoming hearings by the WA State Board of
Pharmacy on pharmacist refusals.
Please consider speaking up against this
practice. The hearings are next week – see the schedule
below. You can also send a letter to the Board of Pharmacy stating your
opposition to this practice and emphasizing that patients’ access should
be paramount.

Subject: Pharmacy Board hearings
on Pharmacists' refusal to dispense
Hi Beth,
I hope this message finds you well. I believe you have
been in contact with my colleague, Roberta Riley, about the upcoming hearings
by the WA State Board of Pharmacy on pharmacist refusals. We are asking
that people like yourselves, with expertise in health care, speak up against
this practice. The hearings are next week – see the schedule
below. Also, or in the alternative, we would be grateful if you or any of
your colleagues or friends are willing to send a letter to the Board of
Pharmacy stating your opposition to this practice and emphasizing that
patients’ access should be paramount.
If you or others are able to attend the hearing, please let
us know so we can coordinate and try to secure you time to talk (2 minutes each
person).
Many thanks! Kelly
