Thursday, April 13, from 12:30-1:20pm, in the Room T-739, Magnuson Health Sciences building, Dr.Hailoo will speak on, "The Role of Academia in Post-War Environment and Health in Iraq", for the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences', ENVH 580 Seminar.
Friday, April 14, U.W. International Health seminar at 12:30 pm in D-209 (Turner Auditorium). The role of public health in conflict and disaster situations.
Dr. Wajdy Hailoo, a physician trained in Mosul (Iraq), teaches at the
State University of NY in Stonybrook. There he heads up the Division
of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, which has developed an
environmental health program to address Iraq's extensive environmental
health problems. Dr. Hailoo will speak about the various complex
environmental catastrophes facing Iraq. Under Dr. Hailoo's
leadership, the program has created three Environmental Health
Education and Resource Centers (EHERC) in Iraq, in Mosul, in Baghdad,
and in Basra. The program enables Iraqi universities to develop and
conduct environmental health research and training, help with
preventive intervention programs and serve as specialized resource
centers for the rest of the country.
