"Dealing with Iraq's Environmental Health Problems"
A Community Talk by visiting Iraqi-American Wajdy Hailoo, MD, MSc
Wednesday, April 12, 7 pm at Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Pl. N, Seattle
sponsored by INOC, cosponsored by NIHAC, a program unit of the Church Council of Greater Seattle
Dr. Wajdy Hailoo, a physician trained in Mosul (Iraq), teaches at the
State University of NY in Stonybrook. There he heads up the Division
of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, which has developed an
environmental health program to address Iraq's extensive environmental
health problems. Dr. Hailoo will speak about the various complex
environmental catastrophes facing Iraq. Under Dr. Hailoo's
leadership, the program has created three Environmental Health
Education and Resource Centers (EHERC) in Iraq, in Mosul, in Baghdad,
and in Basra. The program enables Iraqi universities to develop and
conduct environmental health research and training, help with
preventive intervention programs and serve as specialized resource
centers for the rest of the country.
The University of Washington's Environmental Health Department is
sponsoring his trip. Dr. Hailoo received his MD from the University
of Mosul, Iraq. He received his MSc from London University, England,
and his DIH from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, in
London, England. He also received a diploma in tropical medicine and
hygiene from Liverpool University, England.
