Antidepressants Are No Match for Poverty
In a study that compared the outcome of a depression therapy with a combination of pharmacologic and physical treatment, poverty was a marker for poor outcome, according to a team of Harvard researchers. Depressed patients who were classified as middle income were almost twice as likely to respond to treatment as were those who lived in poor neighborhoods, Alex Cohen, Ph.D., and colleagues reported in the January issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.
