APHA petitioners against the Iraq war   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #389 of 629 |

The American Public Health Assn has in the past made strong statements to
the effect that war is harmful to public health. A group of prominent
APHA members, including several past presidents, are circulating a
petition for consideration at this year's annual meeting that would have
APHA opposing our 'initiation and continuation' of the Iraq war. If you
would like to see the full statement, see the link below.

Subject: Peace Caucus Anti-Iraq War Statement

Friends and APHA Colleagues:

For those of you who are APHA members and inclined, please find below
link to sign-on to APHA Peace Caucus statement in opposition to War
in Iraq (and which includes opposition to the siting of an Armed
Forces Recuitment Booth at upcoming meeting's Exhibition Hall) in a
collective process involving Vic Sidel, Jack Geiger, Barry Levy,
Patrice Sutton and myself, Initial signers include the
aforementioned individuals, as well as a number of PSR members who
have worked with APHA through the years, as indicated in the document.

Vic and Barry are currently working on developing a "latebreaker"
APHA resolution based on the statement for which we hope widespread
signing-on to the statement will provide a groundswell of support for
passage at the APHA annual meeting in Philadelphia commencing
Saturday December 10th.

Below is a link for all APHA members who would like to sign:

A Statement By The Peace Caucus In Official Relations With The
American Public Health Association: Opposition To The Initiation And
Continuation Of The War On Iraq By The United States

<http://www.petitiononline.com/APHAPC05/petition.html>

Please circulate widely to APHA colleagues and friends who might be
able and willing to pass-on to the same. I apologize for duplicate postings.

All the best, Bob Gould.
