The American Public Health Assn has in the past made strong statements to
the effect that war is harmful to public health. A group of prominent
APHA members, including several past presidents, are circulating a
petition for consideration at this year's annual meeting that would have
APHA opposing our 'initiation and continuation' of the Iraq war. If you

Subject: Peace Caucus Anti-Iraq War Statement
Friends and APHA Colleagues:
For those of you who are APHA members and inclined, please find below
link to sign-on to APHA Peace Caucus statement in opposition to War
in Iraq (and which includes opposition to the siting of an Armed
Forces Recuitment Booth at upcoming meeting's Exhibition Hall) in a
collective process involving Vic Sidel, Jack Geiger, Barry Levy,
Patrice Sutton and myself, Initial signers include the
aforementioned individuals, as well as a number of PSR members who
have worked with APHA through the years, as indicated in the document.
Vic and Barry are currently working on developing a "latebreaker"
APHA resolution based on the statement for which we hope widespread
signing-on to the statement will provide a groundswell of support for
passage at the APHA annual meeting in Philadelphia commencing
Saturday December 10th.
