Wendy Johnson is the Central Mozambique Field Director for Health Alliance
International (HAI) in Mozambique where she has been coordinating HAI's
support to the National Health Service in its ambitious AIDS treatment
scale-up. Dr. Johnson will describe the scale-up and discuss the struggle
to make new health technologies accessible and available to Mozambicans
through the public sector. HAI works in partnership with district and
provincial-level health system counterparts in organizing AIDS treatment
clinics, preventing maternal-to-child health HIV transmission, mobilizing
communities for AIDS treatment adherence, and building health
infrastructure. She has previous international work experience in
Guatemala, Mexico, Chile, India, El Salvador and Haiti. Dr. Johnson is
former Medical Director for the city of Cleveland, Ohio and currently
Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Services at UW.
