Global Exchange is an international human rights group that relies on its
members--tens of thousands of people just like you--to work with us to
create social, political and environmental justice.

A delegation to Aceh, Indonesia titled "One Year After: Assessing Civic
Participation, Reconstruction and the Peace Process in Post-Tsunami Aceh"
sponsored by Global Exchange will depart this December 14 - 23. There is
an optional extension trip December 23 - 27 for delegates interested in
continuing their research and attending anniversary memorials.

The delegation provides an opportunity for a diverse group of experts to
hear from and partner with local NGOs, community leaders, women's groups,
government actors, and international aid agencies. Delegates will work
together to assess the political, economic, and social impacts of the
December 26th tsunami disaster and the following aid effort. They will
evaluate the on-going effects of the thirty-year civil conflict, the
disarmament and demilitarization process and the political transformation
of Aceh as a result of the current peace agreement.

This delegation has been developed with the help of Acehnese activists at
home and abroad, Global Exchange and internationals working in Aceh. The
main objective of the delegation is to provide a forum for constitutional
lawyers, journalists, donors and advocates working on issues including
international aid, economic development, peace building, and human rights
internationally or focusing on Indonesia to come together to share their
knowledge, gather information and develop strong partnerships on the
ground in Aceh.

The goals of the delegation are to actively involve delegates in analyzing
and supporting the reconstruction and peace in Aceh: to gather information
and testimonials about how the civil conflict has impacted the recovery
process, assess what political space Acehnese civil society has in
deciding the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their communities and
economies, support local groups advocating civic participation, access the
effectiveness and challenges of aid programs, bring attention to Acehnese
analyses of current reconstruction practices and proposals, and evaluate
the treatment of the tsunami victims and internally displaced persons from
the conflict. As the delegation will be arriving near the culmination of
the demilitarization and disarmament process, delegates will take
testimony and evaluate the degree of success of the peace process at this
stage. Nearing the conclusion of the trip, delegates will come up with
recommendations and plans of support for the NGOs and individuals in Aceh
in the short and long term.

Global Exchange has over fifteen years of experience leading and
organizing delegations all over the world with over twenty thousand past
participants. Global Exchange is organizing this delegation to facilitate
further communication and partnerships to support the Acehnese who are
struggling to overcome tremendous trauma, devastation and a state of
insecurity, and who are working to rebuild their lives. The Indonesian
government has been granted six billion U.S. dollars to rebuild Aceh and
yet eight months after the tsunami there is still debris in the fields,
and a huge internally displaced populations in temporary shelters or in
relative's houses. The delegation will work with Acehnese and governing
bodies to understand and help bring attention to these problems.

In Indonesia Global Exchange will organize the necessary orientations and
contacts to facilitate information sharing and the development of
meaningful long-term partnerships. Delegates will have a rare opportunity
to travel with their peers and hear from the local Acehnese community
about what they need and why. Upon returning, delegates will be well
prepared to engage in publicizing their findings through press
conferences, interviews, reports, speaking engagements and by joining
on-going research and advocacy groups.

As a non-governmental human rights organization, Global Exchange believes
it is vital to support the grassroots communities that have been working
to support democracy, peace, responsible development and justice in Aceh
both before and after the tsunami. Therefore delegates can expect diverse
briefings and onsite visits to be covered in their itinerary each day.
With particular emphasis on meeting communities affected and their leaders
that are working to ensure the vast aid money donated is used in the most
efficient manner. We will also prioritize meeting those who have worked to
preserve the safety and health of the Acehnese people, and who are now
engaged in the peace process to gain a conclusive picture of the current
situation.

Price and what is included:
We have a sliding scale price depending on the number of delegates who
attend from 6 - 9 the price is $2,040 if the delegation becomes 10 or more
the price will be $1,545. The cost is based on double room accommodations
