The local anti-war coalition, SNOW (Sound Nonviolent Opponents of War) is
organizing local events to coincide with a major set of actions in
Washington DC in opposition to the ongoing Iraq war later this month.
See below for further information on what is happening here in Seattle.

Hi, SNOW neighborhood group contact folks! The fourth week-end in
September will see three days of orchestrated action across the United
States entitled "End the War on Iraq" sponsored by United for Peace and
Justice. The focus will be on Washington D.C. and will include a huge
march, rally and festival on Saturday the 24th; followed by an inter-faith
service and training for grassroots activism on Sunday; with a day of
lobbying, civil disobedience and direct actions on Monday, the 26th. Look
for details at http://www.unitedforpeace.org/ . It's inspiring!

Seattle is one of several cities that have planned local events to
coincide with the three days of activities and actions in the nation's
capitol. Here's what we know so far, and we're eager to learn what your
SNOW neighborhood group is planning:

Saturday, 9/24 - Rally and march entitled "Stop the War in Iraq and End
Colonial Occupation from Iraq to Palestine to Haiti - sponsored by the
ANSWER Coalition - noon at Westlake Plaza. Details at
http://www.answerseattle.org/ANS_S24.aspx

Saturday, 9/24 - Letter writing party at Jean Buskin's house. Everyone
will gather informally, mingle, eat, write letters to elected officials.
4-10 PM , 9728 3rd Ave NW, Seattle. She will have snacks and letter
writing materials, or letter writers can bring their own stationery.

Sunday, 9/25 - Letter writing party at Marcia Mullins' house. Folks will
write letters to members of Congress demanding an end to the war. 5-8 PM
2600 E Helen Street, Seattle. Again, snacks and letter writing materials
will be provided and it's also OK to bring stationery.

Monday, 9/26 - Rush hour bannering. Groups will shake out their
neighborhood banners and display them on key overpasses at rush hour to
drive home (pun intended) the message to bring the troops home now and end
the war on Iraq.

As you meet with your groups to discuss the action you'll take, please let
us know if you are hosting a letter writing party or planning a bannering
or any other local action, and we'll include this in our next Bulletin.
Write to info@... with details. "Think globally! Act
locally!"

Thanks very much,

Diana Forman, for SNOW's coordinating committee --------------------===
