A group of UW and Seattle area health professionals have organized a book
drive for the medical and other health professional schools in Iraq.
Attached is a flyer for the effort - please download and post it wherever
appropriate. Details below:
BOOK DRIVE:
DONATE YOUR CURRENT HEALTH SCIENCES TEXT BOOKS
TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BASRA
AND OTHER MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS IN IRAQ
WHY: Ongoing war coupled with the 1990's economic sanctions have
left Iraqi health professionals without access to current textbooks or
journals. We will be able to send these materials to Iraq at no cost,
supporting the reestablishment of the health sciences teaching capacity at
one of the country's leading universities.
WHAT: We are collecting 1) Environmental health books, 2) health
related text books (i.e. nursing, medical, public health, epidemiology,
biostatistics, etc.), and 3) basic sciences books in good condition
(please not more than minimal pen marks, highlights) dated 1996 or after.
Full year sets of journals from 1999 or after also accepted. Strong,
collapsed boxes also needed.
WHEN: Books will be collected between January 3 and Feb 28, 2005
and then shipped to Iraq.
WHERE: Drop off locations:
o UW School of Public Health, in the boxes by the elevator on the 6th
floor H Wing (Health Services Department)
o UW School of Medicine, Room E304 (Family Medicine)
o Public Health - Seattle & King County, 999 3rd Ave. at Madison St.,
Suite 1200 (12th Floor)
o Hagopian home at 4203 5th Av. NW, Seattle
Sponsored by:
