Here is a useful report about a very well-respected Sri Lankan
organization that is conducting relief efforts in Sri Lanka.

Subject: Just back from Sri Lanka

Dear friends,

I have just returned from Sri Lanka as you can see from the attached pdf.
My husband Markus and I were fortunate to not be at the epicenter but were
able to help with relief efforts. We happened to be in Sri Lanka visiting
Sarvodaya as we have been interested in their approach to development and
were therefore there from the beginning of their relief efforts.

We are all wondering now how to help. For those people that want to send
money, we think that Sarvodaya is a great option. It is a well respected,
Sri Lankan organization that works in 15,000 villages around the country,
including those in the affected areas. Already in the first hours they were
collecting information, planning and offering relief. They are working on
their reconstruction plan this week and will hopefully be funded by USAID.

Please feel free to send this request along to anyone. We have been very
heartened by the response. Many people are interested in donating to a
group that not only is in the country, but has a low overhead and is already
on the ground. Several newspapers have been interested in the story and I
am happy to talk about this with anyone.

We are also interested in how can we push relief efforts so that we do not
only rebuild poverty but support organizations that will help to build
strong, safe and, dare I say it, democratic, societies. Our government is
going to donate huge amounts of money and individuals and organizations are
as well. How can we help to see that some of it flows into the right bank
accounts.

I have forwarded along the posts about the organizations in Aceh to others
as well.

Aloha - Jeannette

If you want to donate money for relief in Sri Lanka, please go to
http://www.sarvodaya.org/ and you can do it on-line from there. We think
sending money to Sarvodaya may be the single most important support you can
give right now. We have some write up materials if you want them, just ask
and we'll email it.
