So - 'democracy' in action. The announcement below describes the plans
of many of the groups in Seattle that have mobilized against the Iraq war
to demonstrate their continued oppposition to the war, regardless of the
election results. Actions are today, Nov 3, and Saturday, Nov 6.

Subject: Actions: No Way! No How! No More! Just NO!

Dear friends,

The elections have enshrined Bush and the vicious agenda he
spearheads. An agenda justified by LIES and enforced by naked
power, where tens of thousands of U.S. troops are sent to kill
and be killed for U.S. empire. An agenda that calls dissent
"treason," where legal rights to trial, privacy and protection
from profiling and surveillance are torn away under the "with us
or against us" terms of a growing police state.

No matter how much Bush and his team like to hide from, distort
and re-fashion the truth, no matter how many dirty tricks they
pull, no matter how they try to intimidate or coerce, spin or
distract, they cannot change the fact that there are millions
and millions of us in this country who know this whole direction
is DEAD WRONG! The war is unjust! The deaths are immoral! Any
electoral "mandate" they claim for this direction is
illegitimate!

We refuse to allow the world to be cast under the cold shadow of
a "new Rome" or to accept a razor-wire police state at home. We
refuse to accept the terms of an election where the continued
occupation of Iraq is not to be questioned and the Patriot Act
should be enhanced or repaired. Our will to stop this course
will not be stifled.

There are millions of us who THINK. Who don't want to be the
cops of the world. Who refuse to go back to Jim Crow and a legal
underclass - whether African American or Arab, Muslim and South
Asian. Who refuse to let the religious right control our private
lives and make fundamentalist Christian morality the law of the
land.

We call on everyone who hates this course and sees the danger -
millions and millions across the country - to act with
determination and firmness, to refuse to be silent or to
acquiesce to terms that tell us we must support their "war on
terror" for a hollow promise of "safety." We must repudiate
their plan and their logic, and stand with the people of the
world.

Because the stakes are so high and so much is at stake, we must
act and organize in bold, creative ways that reach and unleash
the millions who are not yet in motion. There needs to be a sea
of resistance, where people connect and organize with each other
and the fascist-types know they don't have a free hand. A sea
where opposition to this agenda, even the simple word "NO," is
seen everywhere - on shirts, posters and stickers in home
windows, offices and shops - emboldening people on our side and
signaling support for those under attack. And there must be
determined manifestations in the streets.

The future of humanity is what's being fought over - and we must
not let the new Roman emperors have it! We must dare to change
the course of history.

Not in Our Name Project
Interim Steering Committee
Excerpted from October 29, 2004 statement

Starting November 2 and throughout that week, gather together
in central locations to protest, plan and organize
resistance. Set emergency meeting locations and "safe zones"
for those under attack. Prepare to be in the streets if
there's a major clampdown on people's rights. Contact Not in
Our Name with news from your area.

IN SEATTLE:

We support the Stranger newspaper's call for people to protest
at the Federal Building today, Nov 3rd. More info:
http://www.thestranger.com/2004-10-28/feature4.html There is
also a rally called by the November 3 Committee today, November
3rd, from 4-6 pm at Westlake Plaza. More info: 789-3620. And
SNOW is calling for all neighborhood groups to organize
neighborhood actions on Friday, Nov 5th showing visible
opposition to the war in Iraq (through signs, banners, tabling,
leafleting, etc. More info: 784-2684.

MARCH & RALLY-SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6

Not In Our Name has plans for a massive march and rally against
war and repression this Saturday, Nov 6, 1pm at Westlake Plaza.
The action is co-sponsored by Seattle ANSWER, Hate Free Zone,
American Friends Service Committee, Veterans for Peace Chapter
92, and Socialist Alternative. Please join us in sending a
resounding NO to Bush and all he represents. We will not accept
the future the Bush crew has layed out before us. We are
determined that, together, we can carve out a path forward to
stand with the people of the world and DEFEAT the agenda of war
and repression.

How you can help:
* Come to Westlake Park early on November 6 to volunteer.
Check in at the NION table near the stage between 11:30 and
12:30. We will match you up with a way to help. No
experience necessary!
* Forward this email widely to friends, family, co-workers,
organizations, etc.
* Print out and copy the poster and get it up all over the
city. You can find it in PDF format at:
http://againstthewall.net/nov6Clean.pdf
* Come to our next weekly meeting on Sundays at 7pm. We meet
at the Community Service Center at 1609 19th Ave, on the
corner of 19th & East Pine, one block south of Madison in
Capitol Hill.
* Make a donation to the Not In Our Name Project. We are
working on a shoe string budget and are hoping that the
event will cover itself when we pass the bucket at the
rally. The total cost of this action is about $2,000. If 100
people out of the 2,000 people on this list donate $20,
we'll be in great shape and can use any money we raise on
Saturday for the future.

To Donate: go to our website at
www.notinourname-seattle.net and donate through paypal or
send us a check made payable to "Media Island International"
and mailed to NION at 4509 Interlake Ave N #190, Seattle, WA
98103. Donations are tax-deductible and we'll mail you a
receipt.

Thank you so much for your support. Let's get going.
