Refer the Darfur Genocide to the International Criminal Court.

It is time for the world to come together and take action. We can no longer watch, discuss and debate while hundreds of thousands die in Darfur.

Secretary of State Colin Powell declared that genocide is underway in Darfur.  We must act now to prevent further deaths and bring a halt to the violence and killing. To do this we must work at the international level to bring an end to these atrocities. The U.S. should employ all our diplomatic tools to pressure the Sudanese government to stop the killing and hold those responsible accountable.

One critical tool in the fight against impunity is the International Criminal Court, which could take up a case against the Janjaweed and their government supporters if the Security Council asked it to.  The first step would be a UN Commission of Inquiry which will collect the evidence immediately and begin to compile names of those responsible.

Following the Commission’s report, a UN Security Council referral to the International Criminal Court would be required to bring the case to the ICC.

Tell Secretary Powell and your Senators that the U.S. needs to support a UN Security Council referral to the International Criminal Court to bring peace and justice to Darfur, Sudan.
