Subject: [HR Listserv] Fwd: Help Stop Genocide in Sudan (fwd)
Dear Friend,
A Physicians for Human Rights field team, recently returned
from the Chad/Sudan border, has compiled indicators of
genocide based on the testimony of victims and eyewitnesses
in Chad and Darfur. Yesterday PHR released a report that
describes its findings and includes specific recommendations.
PHR is calling for a UN-backed resolution supporting
immediate intervention in Sudan to save lives and to punish
the crime of genocide. To the United States in particular, as
well as other donor nations, PHR urgently recommends
expansion of the capacity to provide emergency humanitarian
assistance. In addition, PHR calls for sanctions against the
Government of Sudan, the disarming of the government-backed
Janjaweed militia, and secure corridors for the return of
refugees and those displaced within Sudan.
Tens of thousands have already been killed, raped and driven
from their homes in an organized attempt by the Government of
Sudan to annihilate the country s non-Arab population.
Without immediate intervention, an estimated 3,000 to 1
million more innocent civilians will die. Please join PHR in
its efforts to stop the genocide in Sudan. You can help by
writing to Secretary of State Colin Powell and urging him to
press for a UN resolution calling for immediate intervention
and to mobilize donor nations to assure massive humanitarian
assistance.
