Subject: Update on Children's Health
HCCY and Others who signed the letter opposing cuts to children's health and
prenatal care:
Roy Sims (AAP, WA) and Jon Gould (Children's Alliance) met with Ree Sailors, the
Gov's health care policy lead, on Wednesday, 4/18. We discussed the issues in
the sign-on letter about children's health concerns in the Senate budget. We
had a productive meeting, with Ree saying the Gov opposes cuts to CHIP,
Medicaid, and prenatal care. The Gov has sent a letter to Senators about these
issues. We offered our services in supporting the Gov's position, if needed.
She also said that she was concerned about the high premiums on Medicaid from
the Senate budget. Note that the Gov. has supported premiums in the Medicaid
waiver. We discussed a number of other issues, including immigrants in Basic
Health, restructuring benefits of Basic Health and federal Medicaid reform.
