NIHAC is co-sponsoring:
LIVING WITH DEPLETED URANIUM AND GULF WAR SYNDROME
SAT, April 5, 7pm
University Temple United Methodist Church, 1415 NE 43rd (43rd and 15th Ave)
Gulf War Veterans speak about the challenges they face and the problems they've
encountered with both illness and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Major Doug Rokke, Ph.D., former Pentagon Depleted Uranium Project Director,
addresses the audience in a specially prepared video for this forum. Afflicted
with uranium poisoning from cleaning up these spent toxic weapons, Dr. Rokke
speaks from both personal and professional experience on the dangers of this
heavily used radioactive weapon.
Rep. Jim McDermott will discuss his proposed legislation, The Depleted Uranium
Munitions Study Act of 2003 (HR 1483), mandating a study on depleted uranium and
its long-term effects. Other 'after-conflict' problems faced by veterans will
also be addressed.
Joe Pemberton III, Bellingham attorney and Lawyers for Peace member will speak
about the human, environmental and economic costs of war.
Half-hour educational videos on the effects of depleted uranium will be
available for purchase at the event for a nominal cost, along with postage-paid
video mailing envelopes.
Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
