Dr. Richard D. Klausner, M.D., Executive Director, Global Health at the Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation will speak on "The Grand Challenges of Science
and Technology in Global Health: Improving the Human Condition." Dean
Emeritus Sue Hegyvary, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N. is the moderator.
Dr. Richard Klausner's vision is to create successful national and
international programs that expand access to health care and dramatically
improve global health inequities. The Global Health program's overarching
goal is to improve the human condition by applying new science and
technology to prevent or eradicate HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and other avoidable
diseases in developing countries.
Dr. Klausner is well known for his work in cell and molecular biology and
has served as chief of the cell biology and metabolism branch of the
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Dr. Klausner
received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical
degree from Duke University. After post-graduate medical training at
Harvard, he began his research career at the National Institutes of Health.
