Special Children's Action Alert
March 25, 2003
Topics in this alert:
#1 Protect children from federal budget cuts
#1 PROTECT CHILDREN FROM FEDERAL BUDGET CUTS
BACKGROUND: Amidst news of war, the Bush Administration is working to
dismantle social programs in Congress and pushed a proposal through the
House that would cut a few billion
dollars in social funding for Washington state alone. This week, perhaps
as soon as tomorrow, the U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on their
federal budget resolution which could include huge
budget cuts to key low-income family programs.
The House version of the budget resolution includes $265 billion in cuts
over the next ten years, with health programs (Medicaid and the
Children's Health Insurance Program) bearing over 35%
of them. In addition, recent reports suggest that food and nutrition
programs are at risk of receiving large cuts as well. Let's be sure
Washington's U.S. Senators speak up against these cuts!
ACTION NEEDED: Send your two U.S. Senators the message below and tell
them why you care about this issue.
Senator Patty Murray

MESSAGE: Please do not support a congressional budget resolution that
contains cuts to low-income families and children. With many Washington
families struggling to make ends meet,
now is not the time to reduce nutrition and health programs, foster care
funding, the earned income tax credit, and other types of family
assistance.
