Amineh Ayyad
In Memory of Rachel Corrie.... and all those who have
been killed in the Occupied Territories....
Please call your elected representatives and tell
them:
Intentional killing of nonviolent, unarmed civilians
is illegal and immoral and should be condemned in the
strongest terms:
•We call on the Israeli government to stop all
collective punishment of Palestinians, such as
demolishing homes, to stop all killing of Palestinians
and internationals, and to withdraw from the Occupied
Territories in compliance with United Nations
Resolution 242.
•We call on the United States government to condemn
the Israeli army’s intentional killing of Rachel
Corey, to demand a full, independent investigation and
to call for appropriate punishment of the soldier who
killed Rachel.
•We call on the US government to acknowledge that this
killing was neither accidental nor unique; we ask that
the US government condemn Israel’s ongoing killings
and occupation of the Territories.
•We call on our government representatives to demand
that the Israeli government treat all the peoples of
the Occupied Territories, including internationals,
with respect for their human rights, and to demand
that Israel immediately withdraw from the Occupied
Territories in compliance with international law.

Background:
Rachel Corrie, a student at Evergreeen College in
Olympia, was killed today, March 16, in the Gaza
Strip when she was run over by a Israeli military
bulldozer. Rachel was in Israel/Palestine as a
volunteer working with the International Solidarity
Movement (ISM), a Palestinian-led non-violent movement
to end the Israeli military occupation. Rachel had
been staying in Palestinian homes threatened with
illegal demolition, and today Rachel was standing with
other non-violent international activists in front of
a home scheduled for illegal demolition. According to
witnesses, Rachel was run over twice by the Israeli
military bulldozer in its process of demolishing the
Palestinian home. Witnesses say that Rachel was
clearly visible to the bulldozer driver, and was doing
nothing to provoke an attack.
The Israeli military occupation of Palestinian land
is in its 36th year. Palestinians under this illegal
military occupation are denied human and civil rights,
and are subject to a variety of abuses, including
illegal confiscation of land and home demolitions.
Many Seattle and Olympia residents have travelled to
the Occupied Palestinian Territories to join
non-violent Palestinian resistance to this military
occupation, which Desmond Tutu has compared to the
apartheid regime in old South Africa.
