Re: [naturalbirthturkey] Re: Lamaze certified childbirth educator in Turkey

About the cesarean rates..
Of course there are a lot to talk about this subject. This is  a problem of the civilization and the manner of the medical people to control the  labours.
I worked in the country for 5 years and my cesarean rate was 10%.But when I started working in Marmaris it raised to 60% percent immediatly. After I changed my attitoude and started giving childbirth education I lowered it down to 20% again.
Half of the resposibility about the high cesarean belongs to the doctors(easy to shedule,no risk(???)for the baby,ýts a posh procedure(!),and everybody seems happy with that)
But the other half belongs to women(they are scared of pain and want painless anything(!!!),they dont even care about how the baby is taken out, labour is not something joyfull but something to be left behind as soon as possible, and also they treat the doctors legally about something that might go wrong.)
The solution here is education,
women must learn to ask;"what my baby really needs during pregnancy and at birthing?"
And this needs education.
After finishing our courses women become really confident but sometimes one single word from the negative hypnotizing society spoils everything.
Education also is not enough we must orginize home-like hospitals for them that they feel free of anything during birthing.
I rea all the books of Michael Odent, Thomas Verny, Dick Read  etc.
They gave their fight for a natural childbirth in 1940-1970(and still organizations fight against high secarean rates and especially agents used for pain relief.
But as I keep reading their books I feel like that we must be patient and kepp on knowledging people.
So for this target  I started giving lectures all over turkey and talking about natural childbirth and what their babies really need in labor.

As I told before there are a lot to talk about.
Please keep in touch about any concerns.

HoÅŸ Geldiniz!

I've a few questions for you. From the few doctors that I've talked to here in Istanbul, none seem to think that there is anything wrong with a surgical birth rate over 80%. A "good" doctor seems to be one whose rate is hovering around 50%. How is it possible to persuade doctors here that surgery isn't the answer in all cases?

The doctors that I've talked to outside of Istanbul realize that the surgical birth rate here is ridiculous and it doesn't seem to follow the same pattern in the rest of the country. Why is that?

What can we do as educated consumers, some of us healthcare professionals (although not allowed to practice here), and mothers to alter this thinking?
