Hello,
I'm Feride from Bodrum. I've been following the mails silently. Been too busy being pregnant and getting informed myself to contribute. After reading quite a bit on the subject and going through anger, frustration and pain to what's happening in this country and what my friends are going through without having any idea that things could be different I feel I can contribute by getting some books translated and published. The ones that effected me most were Immaculate Deception 2 by Susan Arms, An Introduction to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin and Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent also the Pregnancy book by the Sears. Though Tamahine once mentioned the book Birthing from Within which I loved very much but I'm not sure if it should be one of the first to be translated.
Any suggestions are welcome.
A friend of mine is planning VBAC in Istanbul. Her doctor said no problem but I have a hard time believing. Would anybody be interested in being her doula during birth.
And one last thing...I found a site called the international midwives association and when I clicked on Turkey two names came up Esra Comezoglu and Elizabeth Soubelet. Does anybody know them?
Love to all,
Feride

Subject: [naturalbirthturkey] Re: Lamaze certified childbirth educator in Turkey
Hoº Geldiniz!
I've a few questions for you. From the few doctors that I've talked to here in Istanbul, none seem to think that there is anything wrong with a surgical birth rate over 80%. A "good" doctor seems to be one whose rate is hovering around 50%. How is it possible to persuade doctors here that surgery isn't the answer in all cases?
The doctors that I've talked to outside of Istanbul realize that the surgical birth rate here is ridiculous and it doesn't seem to follow the same pattern in the rest of the country. Why is that?
What can we do as educated consumers, some of us healthcare professionals (although not allowed to practice here), and mothers to alter this thinking?
