Hi Esra --
Thanks so much for your message. I am very interested in attending the
congress, and will see if I can take time off from work to do so. My
Turkish is not perfect, but I will do my best!
What is the role of midwives here in Turkey? Are they employed by
hospitals, do they have private practices, or attend homebirths? Are
pregnant women eager to have midwives by their sides? My husband is
Turkish, and his family all seemed happy that I was having a midwife
attend my birth, but they thought I was insane to want to have a baby at
home. The attitude of one of my relatives, who is a pediatrician, was that
I was endangering my child's life because I was stubborn and foolish!
I am so ignorant of trends in childbirth here aside from the sense i get
that there are a lot of elective cesaereans performed. I would love to
learn more. Turkey has become my home, so if I am to do anything related
to birth, it will be here!
Thanks so much,
Siobhan
