my name is siobhan and i am really interested in natural birth and
in women having the right to the birth of their choice (whatever
that chioce may be). i have a two year old son who was born here in
istanbul with the help of jasmin. we tried to do the birth at home,
but 24 hours after my water had broken we ended up going to the
hospital. it was a great birth experience, though, because with
jasmin's help i was able to give birth in an upright position as i
had wished to do, with no epistiotomy or anaesthesia. she was also
important in fending off a lot of the standard procedures, such as
antibiotic eyedrops and hep b vaccination right after the birth.
anyway, i work during the week (out of necessity rather than choice)
so i am kind of busy, but i would love to do anything i can to help
promote natural birth and protect women's wishes for their births as
i contemplate the possibility of birthing again (not pregnant yet,
but thinking about it!)
i was especially excited to read of the possibility of a midwifery
conference here in istanbul. is that for real?
