Re: can you be fined for a home birth?

thank you both,
dr. coker & elizabeth.

it was the local state clinic,
as you say,
that paid me a visit.
i believe they thought that i'd already had the baby.
they are the ones that mentioned that
there "may be a fine"
for having the baby at home.
i've been registered with them since i got here
this past september,
but i was also told that i'd have to get an OB,
since they don't do deliveries there
at the saglik ocagi.
after i started seeing an OB,
my husband and i didn't see the need
to return to the saglik ocagi
to "report in" as they are "requesting".

i guess i just don't understand the protocol.

"boo!" - Gabriel was born with an American midwife at our home on a Friday and
on Monday I went to see my OB, who works in a private hospital, who made me a
little letter "certifying" the birth that I used as a "birth certificate" at the
the US and French consulates - NO probelm. True: I did NOT need to declare my
baby to the Turkish authorities... I'm sure that would have complicated things.
