Re: [naturalbirthturkey] Re: Gabriel was born at home!

Dear Tamahine,

Look back at my original mail and you'll find a link to Gail, my American midwife, and her website.

It's a very tough situation in Turkey at the moment for those who want a "truly" natural birth.  My OB/GYN (also a woman) was VERY open to what I wanted, though, in the even that we "needed" to go to the hospital.  If you would like to come to Bursa and see her, I can give you her contact information.

I also agree with Dr.Çoker - go to Marmaris if all else fails!

Please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have.

Take care,
Elizabeth

p.s. what is the Kaz Dag Eco community?

Dear Tamahine,
There are many letters like your's from the not Turkish mom-to-be who live in Turkey.I understand you very well.I see your point.I see your needs. We always had these problems everywhere in Turkey.
As you have already found out, the system in Turkey is based on the doctors. Especially in the western part. And homebirths are not supported at the moment.
I also helped Laurence , who we work together in our childbirth education center, giving birth at home in the birth pool. She was 39 and Selim was a IVF baby. The labor was great there was no problem.
As a solution for you:
1 . I dont think you can find any midwife or doctor that will help you at home.
2. you can arrange a private hospital with a doctor that will support you.It wont be like a homebirth but still will be natural.
3. you can use the state hospital, the accomodation will not be that good but the midwifes will take care of you unless there is a problem.
4.If its not a problem for you travelling you can always come to marmaris, I can help you if you like.

I'm sure Elizabeth will also write tou you.

For any questions you can always write to me.

hi natural birth turkey,

im english, living with my family in kaz dag eco community. three years ago i chose to go back to england to give birth to my first child, for obvious reasons. Nehir has just had her third birthday and i am pregnant again, approx 4 months. we have our life set up here and at this time i feel that it would be quite an upheaval for the whole family to leave our home and life for 3-4 months to give birth in england again. it would be much easier of course to give birth here and i would like to ask you what my options are.

with nehir i had a long and difficult labour but we were at home (my mothers) for 13 hours before they finally transferred us to hospital because she had gone into distress but the midwives stayed encouraging and at 15 hours she came out naturally without any form of intervention.

a home birth would be lovely of course, (i,m really hoping that the second birth will be easier!) but the most important thing is that i can trust who i am with to support me in natural birth unless a real emergency occurs. if that option is in a hospital, then so be it.

i saw that a woman had a home birth in bursa (which is near us) and from what i understood an american doula was brought in? can i find a european doula to come? is there an agency where you can apply for a doula? how does that work legally and if an emergency occurs how does that fit with the turkish hospitals?

i thought i had a nice doctor here she was very pleasant and sensitive in her manner, we even thought that maybe we could trust her, i asked her a few questions just to suss her out and she promised not to give a c-section unless it was an emergency (but wouldn,t consider leaving the cord in tact for a while). But last week when we went in for my blood test results and said that we did not want to have a scan every six weeks (i,ve had 2 so far and everything is as it should be and i really don,t feel i need to go for the next few months at least) she got angry with us and told us to not come back......... so i guess we won't............

kind regards to you all, any information would be greatly appreciated

Tamahine
