1) i started this group because when i was pregnant i realised that i
couldnt have a truly natural birth in Turkey and i had to go back to
england. After i had my baby i heard many birth stories and almost always
the woman have c-sections or traumatic virginal births and they really want
to have natural births. Every body is talking about this subject and people
are loosing faith with the doctors here. My purpose is to launch an official
campaign that will lead to the re- education of woman and doctors so that
women have the chance to give birth the way that nature intended - with the
support and encouragment of well trained professionals.

2) by opening the group mail i hope to bring together the people who are
really interested in making a change, the people who are trained in the
subject, have a personal experience or generally support the issue and are
willing to work and put in thier energy to make a change. The Turkish
birthing practice is years behind the developments made in europe and
elsewhere where the focus is on the mother and child rather than the doctors
conveinence and the science of medicine.

The interested people will meet early next year to plan an official
campaign: we will collect statistics and compare with european models where
there is a high rate of natural births, we will collect and print womans
stories to public expose the hospitals a doctors and make them answerable.

3) the most interesing e-mail of the group has been from a professional who
defined natural birth. though the definition often falls between vaginal
versus c-section, she pointed out that the vaginal births in turkey are not
technically natural - in a natural birth there is very little intervention
from the doctors unless absolutley needed and the woman has a lot of freedom
to move around, to choose which position she like to be in and with proŭpper
breathing techniques is able to give birth with the use of painkillers and
intervention from the doctors. Woman have been giving birth naturally for
centuries and now suddenly doctors and woman have no confidence in the
natural process. thats not to say that it can occasionally be fatal and that
lives are saved by essential medical intervention when absolutly neccassary
but the trend to actually choose to have a c-section or the doctors nearly
always finding a reason to give one show that culturally there is no
confidence in natural birth.
