URGENT! USDA wants to pasteurize leafy greens!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #95520 of 109944 |
Hello Friends -- This may be information you want to pass along to
other sustainability/health-minded people. Unfortunately, the
government is once again trying to stealthily pass legislation that
directly impacts small farmers and the public's health and freedom to
choose. The more voices Congress hears from on this issue, the
better. I'm including a short synopsis below. For more information
and instructions on how to TAKE ACTION, here is a link to the
Cornucopia Institute's Action Page on the subject:

For additional information:

Thank you for taking action.

Subject: USDA Plans to Nuke ALL Our Greens Soon -- Take Action Quickly!

The proposal is for federal regulations to mandate the pasteurization
of all greens. And as bad as that sounds, it gets worse: the USDA has
started using the word 'pasteurize' as a euphemism for irradiation.
I've seen this coming (they've already mandated pasteurizing almonds)
they've sprung it on us, revealing their plan only recently, and
allowing only till Monday, Dec. 3 for public comment! (In the past,
the USDA had comment periods of several weeks or even months... Why so
little time for this issue... hmmm.)

We need to take action. Almonds in September 2007; all greens
(including organic) in the near future; what's next? If we don't act,
we have only ourselves to blame as our food supply becomes ever more
nutrient-deprived and toxic.
