Much more likely they're failing to consider hypochlorhydria. Contrary to
popular wisdom, it turns out that stomach acid _is_ necessary for calcium
absorption, and the modern diet, whether in a calcium-deficient form or
not, seems to induce hypochlorhydria quite reliably.
