Hi Becky,
Here's the latest information I have:
It will take a least 3 months for the results from all the blood assays
to come in after all the patients have been completed in phase I. Still
then, results will have to be published before any information can go
public.
Dr. Faustman will still like to proceed with phase II at the beginning
of 2010 if funding is available. Right now..there isn't enough money.
All that we really need to be concerned with is any safety issues in
phase I to interfere with getting FDA approval to proceed with some sort
of protocol (based on the blood assay information from phase I) for
phase II.
So, just as was the case in Phase I, funding will be the hold up. I'm
planning my 5th annual golf tournament with my net proceeds going
directly to the Faustman lab to help fund these trials. Because she is
trying to use a method that uses an established exisiting drug,
conventional sources of funding aren't available. People like to make
it out like big pharma is evil because of this, but think about it, if
you owned stock in one of these companies, you want them to participate
in money making endeavors. This wouldn't do that for them.
Therefore, we as former state captains for Join Lee Now, or anyone else
on here that supported Dr. Faustman's work over the years needs to
re-energize themselves and GET THE WORD OUT. We need to raise awareness
AND money for these trials to see them through. I believe it's our best
hope for a cure, and if it doesn't lead to the cure, it will most
certainly advance the science significantly. It already has - no one
was seriously talking about regeneration until her "controversial"
research was published. No one can argue that..
I even read an article recently about a child that had a heart
transplanted on top of her diseased heart, and they later found after
she lived with BOTH hearts beating, and her body finally rejected the
transplanted heart, her heart had somehow healed itself. Now, I don't
know ANYTHING about that case other than that, but my point is there is
more and more research out there pointing to the healing abilities of
our bodies, should we find treatments that give our bodies the chance to
do so. This whole concept resonates with me, and is the main reason why
Dr. Faustman's research has always been so compelling for me. You stop
the body from attacking itself, and it can heal itself. Not only is
that a beautiful concept, it just makes SENSE.
Basically - everyone.... let's tell EVERYONE about this work, and help
her find the money she needs to see this thing through, good or bad. We
need to know if this will work. She's poised to find out - she has the
blood assay, she is almost done with phase I, she has proof of concept
research she's done with LOTS of blood samples. Other labs have
replicated her research and have seen cures too. We'd be so much
farther along even NOW if phase I funding hadn't taken so long.
So - let's MOBILIZE!!!
Off my soapbox,
Stacy Lavery
