Hi Everyone,
I know this was much longer in the making than any of us would have liked, but the website is up. The only thing remaining is completion of the database portion of the Petition page. Once that is compeleted, we are fully functional. I've created a temporary "under contruction" page until it is done. I would suggest keeping it under wraps until that time. I anticipate about a week for that to happen. (I know you've heard that before!) You can view the site at: www.CureType1Diabet esNow.org
In preparation, I've drafted an e-mail message to introduce the website to everyone in my personal "address book" (about 400 names). I not sure what the consensus is regarding using a standard message, but I've borrowed information from the website, while trying to keep it brief and upbeat. Anyone in the group is welcome to use it for their recipient list, and please feel free to offer any suggested edits or revisions to make it a more effective message:
SUBJECT: The Cure for Diabetes is NOW !
Type I or "Juvenile" Diabetes affects millions of children and young adults worldwide. It causes severe complications such as heart disease, kidney failure and nerve damage. Diabetes is the number one cause of blindness, lower limb amputations, and the sixth leading cause of death in the world. It shortens the life expectancies of all afflicted by an average of 10 years… and there's no cure. But, now there is real hope!
Through the groundbreaking research of Harvard University 's Dr. Denise Faustman and her immunobiology team at Massachusetts General Hospital , a cure is now in sight! Dr. Faustman has achieved an almost 100% success rate in fully reversing (yes, I said FULLY REVERSING!) end-stage Type I diabetes in non-obese, diabetic laboratory mice. The reversal has been complete and permanent—normal insulin production by the pancreas has resumed naturally and diabetic complications have abated without intervention. Dr. Faustman has been featured in the New York Times, and was rated the number one woman scientist of the year in Oprah's O Magazine. She and her team are currently conducting Phase I clinical trials to translate this therapy to humans. Despite all the praise and scientific validation of her work, she has been unable to obtain funding from traditional sources such as pharmaceutical companies or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (probably because she's going to put them out of business). That's why she needs our help!
We are on the verge of a major breakthrough regarding Type I diabetes that may potentially lead to cures for other autoimmune disorders such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, scleroderma, Sjogren's syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis. With so much to gain, it is imperative that this research is adequately funded. Please take affirmative steps by supporting and funding this revolutionary research NOW ! Our lives and the lives of future generations. .. yours and mine... depend on it.
To sign our petition demanding adequate funding for this research, or to donate money for the cause, please visit: www.CureType1Diabet esNow.org. Every caring person can help. Every single voice makes a difference. Every dollar brings us closer to the cure. Every moment counts…
P.S. Please help us spread the word by forwarding this message to everyone you know (family, friends, colleagues). Everyone is touched by diabetes, and only together can we eradicate this dreadful disease. Please offer others the opportunity to help… and to hope. Please join us!
Thanks,
Bill

> I am pleased to share that we have reached our fundraising goal of $10 million for Dr. Faustman's project at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). It has been an exciting journey since we accepted the challenge of raising this critical funding for the first phase of Dr. Faustman's BCG Human Clinical Trial.
>
> As most of our supporters know the Iacocca family has been funding type 1 research for more than 25 years. Over the years all funding has been through they family's private foundation funds until 2004 when we created JoinLeeNow, the campaign to expand Dr. Faustman's regeneration research from the lab to human clinical trials.
>
> Now that we have reached this important milestone we have made the decision to
stop actively fundraising through what has become The Iacocca Foundation/ for type 1 diabetes - a public charity. We will be accepting donations through December 31, 2008 when we will make our final committed payment to Dr. Faustman.
>
> As we look to the future we remain committed as always to being part of a cure for type 1diabetes. The Iacocca family will continue to fund the brightest and best who are dedicated to ending this disease. And we hope you will turn your time and resources to continue to support Dr. Faustman directly as she and her team at Massachusetts General Hospital prepare to launch a campaign to raise funding for the Phase II BCG clinical trials.
>
> Our dedication to find a cure was born out of the loss of Mary K. Iacocca a loving wife and mother who died of diabetes complications more that 25 years ago. Today we are comforted that together we have been instrumental in bringing new
hope and a potential cure closer to a reality.
