What does this mean? What statements are you referring to? What answers do you want?
This project has rdone nothing but progross and has reached every scientific goal placed upon it. Ever since it started receiving the bulk of the funding in a timely manner, it has stayed pretty much consistent with the estimated $11.5 million needed to take it through the phase I trial in the estimated 3 year period.
As far as compound 2. no, the lab has not identified compound 2. They received alittle funding to do so. Regardless, the objective for phase II using BCG is to result in normoglycemia. How long someone will stay in this state is a guess...weeks, months, years? If the successful
results occur with increased dosing using BCG, this could be used as a periodic treatment while they work for compound 2. The fact is, if the results don't happen in phase II, the project will pretty much be over. In any case, this is still the first human trial attemtping to reverse diabetes in those people who have had it beyond 5 years.

Has Faustman identified the second compound that will make this
a "permanent cure"? If so, how long a development window will it
take to bring this second compound to the clinic? Another 7 to 10
years as we saw with BCG?

finally given to the MGH lab in June of 2006. From that point, the
project always had a 3 year estimated time frame to do the pre-
clinical work involving the human blood assay for autoimmunity and
the automation (building the platform system) for the first 18
months and then conducting the phase I clinical trial using BCG.
We're almost a year and a half down the road and we've all been
informed that the automation is basically complete, 100's of blood
samples from diabetics have been collected and this will be an
ongoing process. We've also been given the information that the
phase I human trial is planned to start as early as this December or
January of 2008 taking an estimated timeframe of 18 months (thus the
total 3 year time frame). The dosing of phase I is very low and is
not expected to result in anyone having normoglycemia. The lab will
be collecting valuable data such as TNF alpha levels, C-peptide,

to late 2009.
