Saturday I woke up, and went though my normal morning routine, eat,
shot, plan for the day. It was a beautiful day, with the promise
of getting that new window installed-that would require tearing out
a concrete block wall. So I made sure that I had sufficient
breakfast, and snacks set up to handle my glucose level while I
work. About the time I had all of the tools and work table set up
and ready to go it hit me; I started sweating heavily, and started
shaking-first thing-drink half a glass of OJ, then finger stick. My
glucose was down to 51. I had injected Lantus directly into a blood
vessel. Over the four years now since being diagnosed with type 1,
this has happened about three times.
Over the next two hours, it was a struggle to get my glucose above
70 and keep it there. How hard is it to watch a child go through
something like this; and they not really knowing what is happening,
what to do, confused, sick, and afraid?
And that is really the reason that this research is so vitally
important; not for me-I'll get through OK one way or another-but for
children, and young adults who have a lifetime ahead of them. This
research hopefully will lead to a cure for them, and I don't just
mean no more taking insulin-yes that gets you back to level- but
this research could lead to freeing them to rise to their full
potential. Thanks for doing this research! Thanks for keeping at
it!
