"The following press release is from the Association of Social Work Boards.
Please contact Lavina Harless (lharless@...) if you are interested or have
questions.

ASWB LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR EXAM WRITERS

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) has announced its annual search for
licensed social workers to write examination questions for the social work
licensure tests used in the United States and Canada. The writers selected for
2010 will join the network of subject matter experts who are paid to create test
questions on a wide range of social work topics.

Social work subject matter experts from diverse demographic and practice
backgrounds are the initial authors of the questions ultimately included on the
ASWB licensing examinations used in 49 states, the District of Columbia, the
U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
These writers are trained by ASWB and contracted to write 30 questions that meet
the association's standards. Writers are paid $1,000 for each set of 30
questions accepted.

The group of writers is balanced for racial, ethnic, geographic, and practice
diversity, and includes social workers from the United States and Canada at all
levels of practice, including social work faculty.

Social workers who are interested in applying to write questions for the social
work licensing exams should visit ASWB's website, www.aswb.org, for more
information and to download the application. All application materials must be
submitted electronically by December 1, 2009.

The Association of Social Work Boards is the organization of social work
regulatory bodies in the United States and Canada. In addition to the social
work licensing examinations, ASWB assists social work regulatory boards by
providing a variety of services including disciplinary action databanks, the
Social Work Registry, and the ASWB Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program."

Hi Gregg,
Congratulations on your graduation. I understand your agency will be paying for your outside supervision since they don't have a LCSW. I will be happy to provide supervision for you. I did supervise an MSW who was in the same situation as you.
I charge $60 for a 50 minute session -location is on Saratoga Ave./Lawrence Exp in San Jose.
You can find a brief description of my professional experience with my current employer in my website:

We can talk more about my supervision experience and how can we match it to your needs.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Colleagues,

I graduated in May 2009 with my MSW. I recently took a position as a Program Coordinator (essentially a case manager) and I am looking into getting supervision hours towards my LCSW. The issue I've run into is that there are no other Social Workers at my agency. Thus, I am looking for an established LCSW to provide outside supervision.

If there is anyone out there that can provide supervision. My agency is willing to pay for these services. I was curious if someone (or a few people) could provide me with an estimate on how much weekly supervision would cost.

Thank You,

Gregg Arteglier, MSW

All these are not your ordinary mimes! But they are a SF bay area tradition I
was introduced to as a Social Work Grad Student back in the early 90's. At the
time their production was called "Social Work: An Election Year Fantasy."

This year's show is called: "Too Big To Fail"

The Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe celebrates its 50th Anniversary
season with a song and dance satire of monumental proportions, TOO BIG TO FAIL.
Told in the tradition of the West African Griots, this modern day epic follows
Filije, a man in love with his family, his village, and most of all, his beloved
goat, Bamusa, on an odyssey through the twists and turns of banking bureaucracy
and international finance to find out how all the greed got started, and more
importantly, how the hell we turn it off.

Hi Bay Area Social Workers,

My name is Jennifer Merrill and I have just completed my MSW degree this past
May at New York University. I completed my BSW at New York University in May of
2008.

I am originally from the Bay Area, and plan on moving back on June 29 to begin
working in the field. Since I am a new professional, I want to actively seek out
seminars, educational opportunities, peer groups and training to further enhance
my knowledge of the field. I believe the social work profession is one in which
a person must constantly grow and learn in order to provide clients with the
best services possible.

Seeing as all of my educational training and field placements were in New York,
all of my professors, supervisors, contacts, and peers are in the New York area.
I now hope to establish a new network of social workers in the Bay Area.

My first field placement was at Bellevue with MICA clients in a Therapeutic
Community. I worked as a primary therapist in individual, group, and family
therapy settings. My responsibilities also included conducting intakes and
assessments, developing treatment plans, keeping detailed notes, and co-leading
a Music Expressions Group. While at Bellevue I gained experience working as part
of a multidisciplinary treatment team, with other social workers, psychiatrists,
medical specialists and nurses.

My second placement was with New Alternatives for Children (NAC) where I
provided casework and clinical service to children and families in NAC's Foster
Care and Adoption program. NAC specifically serves children with special
medical needs and developmental disabilities and their families. Again I worked
as part as a multidisciplinary team, and also received experience in working
with the court and school systems. Although I loved the health sector, and
sharpened my casework management skills, I did miss individual sessions.

I am very interested in health, but my main interest of practice remains in
psych and mental health. My ultimate goal is to gain my LCSW and have the
ability to work in both agency, hospital and government settings as well as have
a private practice.

I am open to any opportunity that presents itself, because I believe that all
areas of social work are invaluable and help hone and refine different skills
that are needed in the profession. I also look forward to becoming an active
participant, not only in this group, but in the field. Thank you all!

Jennifer Merrill

Hi Friends,

I'm currently working for Vietnamese Overseas in Conscience Empowerment (VOICE) Cambodia. We are located in Siem Reap and focus on countering sex-trafficking via creating small social enterprises that employ Vietnamese girls at-risk to or have been apart of the pervasive sex industry that exists here. VOICE Cambodia also has a preschool that serves children of marginalized communities.

We are currently looking for someone who's interested in taking up the social worker position, as it is greatly needed for VOICE Cambodia to fully support the population that we serve in building and sustaining healthier lives.

Also, please pass this on to your listserves and friends who may be interested. Thanks!
Much appreciation,

Youth empowerment is an important component of successful transition for youth aging
out of the foster care system. In this session we will explore the effects of age related discrimination
on youth's ability to succeed. Through a series of interactive exercises and
large and small group dialogue participants will explore their own socialization around age
and the ways that we have learned to treat and work with the young people. Participants
will also work to develop tools and skills that may allow the greatest possible success for
youth while in care and through transition.

If you are providing direct client care, you will inevitably be working with
substance abuse issues in 25-35% of your clients. Whether you are a beginning
professional, or have been in practice for many years, this workshop will have
something for you. Learn practical, quick and easy ways to assess a client's
level of use and to treat your clients, as well as when to refer them out to
other medical professionals.

You Will Learn:
• About the brain science of addiction and how this impacts your treatment
strategies;
• What's new on the medication front. Where we are going with new medication
options for clients;
• How to assess and treat both the adolescent and adult client; and
• Different perspectives on this chronic disease from industry experts
The Day:
• Mark Stanford, PhD will begin the day discussing the neuroscience of substance
abuse and new discoveries on the biobehavioral aspects of addiction.
• Andrea Ancha, PsyD will talk specifically about how to assess and treat
adolescent clients.
• A panel of addiction treatment experts: Deborah Stephenson, MD,
Kathleen McQuaid, MFT, Cheryl Blankenship Kupras, LCSW and Lynn Maya RN, MFT
will each respond to a case presentation based upon their area of specialization
so that we
can more fully understand the different perspectives in a multidisciplinary
treatment approach.
