Dear Friends and
Community Supporters,
API Equality and Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) are partnering with the
Family Acceptance Project at San
Francisco State University's César E. Chávez Institute
to develop tools and resources for Chinese and API Families to learn how to
accept and love their LGBT children.
As part of this project, we want to talk with parents of LGBT children to ask
their advice on developing education materials in Chinese and English for
families and providers in the community. Initial research has already
been done with many LGBT youth and young adults and their families to
understand how family acceptance and rejection affects the health, mental
health and well-being of LGBT young people. We want to follow up on the
initial research by talking to the parents and family members with LGBT young
people to ask their advice to develop family education materials for Asian /
Chinese families.
Attached is a copy of our announcement in Chinese and English. We
hope you could put it in your notice boards. Please let me know if you
need me to send copies by regular mail. We need your help to
disseminate this information as well as to publicize our confidential
discussions with individual families. Families interested in
speaking with us to help with this work are encouraged to call Amos Lim (
) at
415.274.6760 or email alim@.... All
discussions with families will be kept confidential. We will give each
family $50 for talking with us. Our meeting is expected to last about 2
hours. We will meet with families wherever it is convenient for them,
including CAA's office in Chinatown, the César
E. Chávez Institute office in the mission or any other location that families
prefer.
Please help us develop these important family education materials.
We really appreciate your help.
