Social Workers!

If you, or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering in Brazil, please read below and/or pass this message on. WE ARE SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS SUMMER AND BEYOND. This is the association that my husband founded in his town and I've been working with for the past 5 years, now as the contact person for international volunteers who would like to support their work. If you are interested, please let me know!

For more information: www.aec-tea.org

WHY VOLUNTEER WITH AEC-TEA?
* Learn about the realities of education, social welfare, politics, and community organizing in rural Brazil!
* Live in a friendly community where you can walk everywhere, make friends with your neighbors, visit schools and social programs, and have lots of fun!
* Live in a cooperative household with volunteers from around the world!
* Learn to speak Portuguese, cook new foods from scratch, and wash your clothes by hand!
* Live out Our Transcultural Model 24 - 7!!

WHAT CAN VOLUNTEERS DO?
* Teach languages, art, theater, computers, music....or anything of interest to the community that you are able to teach
* Assist in a childcare center, cooperative market, after school program, or school
* Social worker/psychologist: provide training/support for child welfare workers and teachers (requires a 6 month commitment and knowledge of Portuguese--Spanish is OK to start)
* Help maintain the community center, volunteer house, computer lab, and garden
* Help with our website

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
AEC-TEA is a volunteer-run association which sustains itself through local student and member contributions. International volunteers pay a monthly contribution of $125 to maintain the volunteer house (room and board) and are responsible for their own travel and personal expenses.

WHAT SHOULD VOLUNTEERS TO COMMIT TO?
* Being open and eager to learn about local culture, make connections in the community and take initiative in diverse activities
* Working and living as part of a group and multicultural team
* Exercising patience, flexibility and willingness to look for solutions to daily challenges
* Living simply and working creatively with minimal resources
* Having realistic expectations and a sincere desire to work in partnership with local volunteers
