Job Title: Bilingual Counselor (Cantonese, Mandarin, and/or Vietnamese) Asian American Recovery Services, Inc.

Reports to: Program Manager
Classification: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
Salary range: $28,000 - $32,000 p.a. on 100% full-time basis
Description: Project Adapt is an intensive outpatient program of MRS, Inc., an innovative substance abuse prevention, treatment, and research agency serving the greater SF Bay Area.
Project Adapt is a unique co-occurring disorder program offering comprehensive services to address all aspects of a person's well being including substance abuse, mental health, and interpersonal issues. To promote recovery and healing, the program uses a holistic approach, which incorporates contemporary western therapeutic models, alternative/complementary modalities, traditional Asian practices, and a sense of inclusion and community among its participants. The Counselor works with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver and coordinate drug treatment, mental health counseling, recreational, educational and other supportive activities for program participants. The Counselor is supervised by the Program Manager; however, will receive daily guidance and direction from the Senior Counselor. This position requires an ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle information with tact and diplomacy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
• Facilitates and conducts individual and group counseling;
• Conducts comprehensive client needs assessment;
• Develops individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives;
• Monitors and documents client progress in accurate and timely manner;
• Assists in developing and maintaining confidential client charts/information;
• Coordinates information regarding participant activities, progress and schedules;
• Collaborates closely with Proposition 36 and drug diversion case workers, probation and parole officers to support individuals in fulfilling court mandates;
• Attends daily debrief sessions, weekly supervision, department, agency wide and other meetings, training and development opportunities as determined appropriate by supervisor;
• Assists in the development of community linkages aimed at providing ancillary services such as housing, additional mental health care, psychiatric medication, medical resources, financial assistance, legal advocacy, etc.;
• Researches, coordinates, implements and works with clinical team to oversee a wide array of recreational and other activities, events, and functions aimed at supporting and sustaining individuals in the recovery and healing process; utilizes community resources and programs as available;
• Ensures appropriate safety measures, standards and mandates are implemented.
Required Qualifications:
• Bilingual in (Cantonese, Mandarin, and/or Vietnamese);
• BA degree and/or two years experience providing substance abuse and mental health services in an outpatient or day treatment setting;
• Experience with diverse client populations, specifically, but not limited to, the Asian / Pacific Islander community;
• Valid CA driver's license and willingness to travel as necessary; (Class B License preferred);
• Experience in conducting individual/group counseling, recreational activities, and psycho
education workshops;
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; strong team/consensus building skills;
• Ability to effectively resolve conflict and cope with crisis situations;
• Ability to use holistic approach to recovery and mental health.
Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge of community activities, resources and programs;
• Experience with San Francisco County and Medi-CAL billing and documentation.
