Project HIRED focuses on the abilities and talents of job seekers
with disabilities. We assist adults with a variety of physical and
mental disabilities, including deaf, chronic illnesses and learning
disabilities. Project HIRED makes a particular effort to target
individuals with disabilities who are long-term unemployed (6 months
or more) or underemployed. The typical Project HIRED candidate is one
who has limited work history, who may have lost their job, and
possibly their career due to the onset or worsening of a disabling
condition or occupational obsolescence. Project HIRED partners with
employers to ensure that services are inclusive, available and
responsive to the needs of job seekers with disabilities, so that
individuals will achieve economic independence, and become less
dependant on public assistance.

Primary Job Function:
The Employment Specialist facilitates successful job search support
in gaining competitive employment for individuals with disabilities.
Job Responsibilities:
The Employment Specialist (ES) will deliver direct job search
mentoring services for up to approximately 60 clients per caseload.
This is primarily done in the form of vocational/functional testing,
pre-employment skill assessment, job development, job retention
support and career advancement counseling. In addition to providing
support in identifying appropriate career paths and effective job
search skills, the ES may be responsible to facilitate career
development workshops for 15-20 job seekers as well as provide one on
one support on topics in relation to obtaining and securing job
placement: effective networking, resume writing, cover letters, ADA,
interviewing and accommodation/disability disclosure in the
workplace. The ES will assist in developing and maintaining
collaborative relationships with Department of Rehabilitation and
other community human service agencies for referral and recruiting
purposes. The ES is responsible for assisting in identifying possible
business relationships and work opportunities for job seekers, as
well as keeping up to date on employment trends. And essential
function of the position is to maintain complete, accurate and up to
date case management files and other federal documents as required.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum of two years professional experience in one or more of the
following: job development, employment placement, staffing,
recruiting, or human resources
Bachelors degree in related field (Career Counseling, Human
Resources, Social Work, Education, Psychology, or similar discipline)
Have a commitment to working with people with disabilities
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong customer service attitude
Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
Able to work in a fast paced, team environment
Proven experience in the nonprofit environment as a volunteer, staff,
or board member
Fluency in business communications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook)
Desired:
Masters Degree in related field
Program management experience
Fluency in second language, including American Sign Language
