How often do you frequent a restaurant with artists paintings hanging on the
wall? Check with the owner and ask what the turn over is and you'll usually
discover that lots and lots of people enjoy the paintings while few buy.
Having grown up in an upscale I know first hand that spending does not
necessarily have anything to do with sales even if you are skilled at your
profession. A lot of the people in those neighborhoods come in from surrounding
towns to work, shop or sightsee. The ones that live there often have money
because they've been frugal and choosey about how they spend it.
It seems to me that Starbucks charges similar prices even in poorer
neighborhoods. Besides the people at any Starbucks often come simply to buy
coffee, meet friends, read etc. If you focus on the idea that you are there
primarily for the entertainment value, you just might use it as free advertising
to drum up some business through a website linked to a business card. Then you
have less of a chance of being disappointed if the market doesn't respond the
way you hope.
Good luck, Susan
