Hi...I was doing some research on MVP since I have it and ran into
this group...Thank you for accepting me into this group and hope I
can learn some new things as well as contribute some things to that
group...Thank you
Jessica
hi,
Found your site and I got interested. I suspect my bro has panic attack
and these are recurring one.
We live in the philippines, would anyone know if there is a local support
group here in the Phils?
Thank you very much on your replies

I started experiencing an increase in pvc's,pac's last year and
assumed health and stress were the cause. I have been taking an
additional 250 mg. of Magnesium with my multi and calcium for over 3
months , But still have alot and like many it depends on the day. I
tried Progesterone cream for 3 months to control menstrating 2 x a
month and heavy bleeding which is always tough on a MVP gal.
7 months ago they gave me Potassium supplements which I tried for a
while. Still following all the Heart health ideas in the books and
from my EP . Here is too happy healthy hearts and nervous systems
for us all.
Hello everyone, My name is Tracy and I just wanted to introduce
myself.I also have mvp with mild regurgitation, I have dealt with it
for 6 miserable years, the doctor also thinks I have whats called
sick sinus syndrome so he told me to prepare myself for a pacemaker
but he still has some test to do this friday before i know for sure.
Does anyone else in this group have MVP and also sick sinus syndrome?
I never thought at 29 years old i would be getting a pacemaker but
I'm still hoping for the best. Hope everyone is doing well.

I am 27 years old & last week durring the 100th emergency room visit, I was
finally told that I have MVP. I have had so many of those visits for chest pain,
shortness of breath & palpitations on to be told for almost 3 years now that it
was anxiety, A-typical chest pain, or the "we can't find anything wrong" deal.
Back in 2000, at 25 I had a Catherization Ablation for a blockage due onset
Tachycardia attacks. I never had any heart problems as a kid & as I got older
was a very active person; running track in school, competing in JROTC fitness
obstacle courses & until last week weightlifting. I am so SCARED , plus my
husband isn't showing me any support. He even asked me how could I let this
happen , & when I was in the hospital Thursday of last week was so pissed
because he had to leave an important business presentation. The doctor said that
I could presume with my weightlifting because mt MVP is minor but the
Beta-Blocker got me too tired to even get out of bed. Man....it is hard
to even accept this, I can't stop crying, I feel like I am going to die of a
heart attack or a stroke at any minuite plus I never really gotten over that
operation I had 3 years ago. Is there anyone out there who knows how it feels to
have all of this extreme energy but all of a sudden feel like a walking time
bomb with no love coming from anywhere?
Thanks 4 listening; Please help me...

I have had the same problem. My heart has been going to 145-150 when resting. I
get my MVP symptoms only every few years though when especially tired. This
pregnancy, (I'm 6 months along) I was very sick with two back to back viruses,
and bronchitis and one doctor gave me an inhaler and some decongestants and that
is when my heart started acting up again...so I went to the cardiologist and he
told me that I can't have the inhaler or anything with any decongestants.
Plus I was not getting any sleep from coughing all night long. So I think it was
a combo of the pregnancy, the virus, and lack of sleep.
It has taken several weeks after stopping the medicines and making changes to my
lifestyle before it has slowed down. It's still a little fast now, like 110-115
while walking around and 95 when resting, but I've just curbed my activity and
not being on my feet so much.(catching up on my sewing and painting) and it has
helped me keep it under 100.
I just decided my body was trying to tell me something, so I started sleeping 10
hours at night and slowing down my activity and eating 6 times a day instead of
3 to keep my blood sugar on an even keel (because my heart rate was racing when
hungry and slowing down after meals) and it has made a drastic difference. Also,
I cut out candy and chocolate and refined sugars and eating more fresh fruit
with good sugars instead...like grapes, oranges and bananas and absolutely NO
caffiene. I started meditating again and playing soft music and keeping my mind
on peaceful things too....because the stuff I was reading on the internet was
just making me tense and stressed out and making the situation worse.
I'm not that worried about labor and delivery because I think it's extremely
RARE for someone with MVP to die during delivery.

Subject: [MVP and MVPS Support] mvp and pregnancy
I am currently 15 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have known I've had mitral
valve prolapse for almost 19 years and am currently 36 years old.
I've always had the sensation on and off of my heart "flipflopping"
in my chest and at times a resting heart rate of 112 to 120...don't
remember any problems during my psat prenancies but this one I have
noticed it a lot. there are days where whenever I'm up it is doing
this every couple minutes....up till now I didn't let it bother
me...I knew I had mvp adn they told me back originally that it was
nothing to worry about...so I didn't...I knew the pain and other
symptoms were mvp and not a heart attack or anything like that so I
wasn't scared...well I've done some reading on the internet...enough
to scare the crap out of me...now I'm scared to death that I'm going
to die during delivery or something. I keep telling myself that it
is partly due to pregnancy and partly due to the humidity as I also
have asthma..but have been afraid to use my inhaler for fear of
making it worse or not being safe for baby. I go to the Dr. tomorrow
and will talk to him...but thought maybe someone here might have some
words of comfort....I haven't been followed since my original testing
and am scared after all that I have read that something horrible
could be wrong..but then it didn't get this extreme till I got
pregnant. Please help if you can to alleve my fears. Thank you.

Yes, I understand that!! I think being on the computer actually calms me
down to go to sleep! Especially talking with friends! I guess it is according
to the person and life too!

I believe it..... because people who suffer from SAD have too much melatonin or
not enough seratonin because they are sensitive to light levels and so doctors
prescribe these therapy lamps for them to stare at for 15 minutes to help lower
the melatonin levels so they can be fully awake during the day.
http://www.sunnexbiotech.com/noframes/sad.html
So it makes sense if someone is starting at a light late at night and doing
something interesting or exciting that it would keep them awake. I know it
affects my sleep. I have to wind everything down by 8:00 so I can fall asleep at
10:00.

Subject: [MVP and MVPS Support] Do you believe this???? Taking a Poll!
Do This Before Bedtime. You Won't Sleep
If you're having trouble falling asleep at night, your passion for your
computer could be to blame. According to researchers from the Akita University
School of Medicine in Akita, Japan doing work on a computer or playing video
games
right before bedtime can keep you awake--for hours. The bright light of the
computer screen is to blame for this. That light can actually alter your
biological clock and suppress the natural production of melatonin that governs
your
normal sleep-wake cycle. Sleep problems ensue when melatonin declines and
exposure to light can cause it to dip.

The study: The Japanese researchers tested the effect of late-night computer
use on melatonin production, as well as other bodily functions that are known
to change when we sleep, such as temperature and heart rate. For this
experiment, seven male computer users with an average age of 25 awakened
between 8 and
9 a.m. and went to bed--without using the computer--between midnight and 1
a.m. for one week. At the end of that week, they used the computer--either
playing a video game or solving math problems--with a bright or dark display
monitor on alternating nights between 11:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. And then they went
to
bed.

I am 17 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child, and I was diagnosed with MVP in 1985.
I have been sick for 3 weeks with a virus that left me with bronchitis and two
middle ear infections that did not clear with antibiotic treatment. My heart
started racing last week. It ranges from about 90-110 when resting and it
suddenly jumps to 140 beats per minute when I stand up and I have shortness of
breath and I'm dizzy. A couple of weeks ago my family doctor had put me on and
albuterol inhaler for the bronchitis cause I couldn't breathe, and some other
decongestants. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to take decongestants with my
heart problem and it started racing after about 2 weeks of taking them. So I
went to a cardiologist and he told me to stop taking the medicines. So I stopped
taking them over the weekend and my heart rate slowed down but was still a
little higher than normal but I attributed that to the pregancy. Then, Monday I
had an obstetrician appointment and I felt fine, and then I went shopping for
about 30 minutes and I come home and my heart is going beat beat beat skip beat
beat beat skip beat beat beat skip....and then it stops. The next morning my
heart rate is back at 140 when I stand up and about 110 when I sit down. Then
after lunch my heart rate goes down to 107 and about 90 when sitting. A couple
hours later it's back up again and goes back down after dinner, and then goes up
again before bedtime. This morning it is at 140 anytime I stand up and do the
slightest thing like try to wash a dish or change a diaper. My heart doctor
called back and wants me to take an anemia test with my O.B. and last night he
told me to drink two bottles of gatorade for my blood volume. I'm trying to get
in with my O.B. and I've called twice and he has not called back yet and I'm so
frustrated. I'm wondering if anyone else here has had palpitations with
pregnancy??? I haven't had a problem since my 1st pregnancy when I went on
disability but these palpitations seem much worse....and I have to take care of
a 6 year old and a 3 year old and I CANNOT go on bed rest. According to the
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for my age of 34 my heart
rate is not supposed to exeed 111 BPM while pregnant after 30 minutes of
exercise....and mine is going nuts while sedentary. I just don't know where to
turn. No one seems to be taking me seriously.

Hi, and welcome!
My name is Dawn. I was diagnosed with MVP and MVPS about 7 years ago! I was
first given just a EKG. Then I had a Echo Doppler 2, done in about 3 years
apart. I have hammocking of the mitral valve, but no regurgation, at this
time! They think it is mainly a birth defect, and I do get the clicking and the
palpitations, during extremely Hot and stressfull days!!! I take Atenelol for
it, on a as needed basis because I was taking it everyday, but my blood
pressure would get too low, and I actually fell and broke my nose in my home! (
Almost what happened to Barry Manilow, recently, lol!!) They might have to
break
my nose, again, because of sinus issues, but I am trying everything in my
power to not have that done! I have broken my nose twice in my life (once when
I
was ten years old!), and always had sinus problems in my nasal area! I don't
have a big nose, just a very clumsy person! LOL!!!
But I had the Echo Doppler 2 done, three times, once during a stress test,
when they make you walk, with monitors on and a doctor and nurses standing by
incase you get weak, and they speed it up to a certain speed and heartbeat, then
they rush you onto a table to look at your valves! I had an extremely hard
time because my chest bone is curved in more and they had a very hard time
looking at it, but they saw it before they said I might have to come back and do
it all again, after they inject me with some kind of nuclear medicine. I
refused, and they just bruised my chest, but they got the clear picture, and I
go
see my cardiologist, Psychiatrist, and therapist for my MVPS, and Bipolar two
disorder (Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Sleeping disorder). Your heart
and nervous system work together, and mine is just sooooooooooo out of whack,
lately!!!
On other another note, I do have a son, who is almost seven, and he has ADHD,
and we are still trying meds. He has seen over 8 doctors regarding his
situation, and there is no doubt in all of their expert minds, that he
definately
has it and his behavior at school has proven it! He keeps me on my toes, and
on my nerves! I am divorced, but recently engaged to a wonderful man, that
will help me out in anyway that he can! Unfortunately, he lives and works an
hour away, but is at my home, five days of the week, of course, after the
homework hassels and bedtime routine! WE are looking to move closer to his job,
with
a better school system, and hopefully a more relaxing atmosphere!
Just a bit about me, sorry so long, so much going on now, almost the end of
the school year, and my son refuses to do any homework! It is a hassel, and I
am trying to not get worked up, but I can't wait for summer~
I hope you can relate and the test are not bad, they actually relaxed me,
knowing how my valves are and on my road to getting my symptoms under control!
Let us know what happens and keep in touch!
You will do fine~ Breathe~

Hi, My name is Shannon. I was diagnosed with MVP around the age of
10. I have had this problem ever since. I have recently been
diagnosed with depression. I have chest pains every so often and at
least one migraine headache a week. The drs think that the headaches
come from my allergies cause my allergies are really bad. I am
trying to cut down on my sweets and soft drinks. I have 2 daughters
and had no problems while having them. The MVP actually did not show
up during my 2nd pregnancy. The cardiologist could not find it by
just listening to it. However, my family dr heard it after she was
born. I told her that while I was pregnant that it couldn't be heard
and she didn't understand why but that I do have it. I have no
regurgitation as of Sept. 2001. I have not had an echocardiagram
since then. I am fixing to make plans to go and see my dr. soon
cause I have been having chest pains and palpations a lot lately. I
am not a complainer so I do not let my husband or family know what is
going on. They do worry bout me. My husband even took out heart
insurance on me in case something happens. It will pay for anything
I need done. I just thought I could get some support from these
groups. Thansk for listening!!!
I was voted in today! I am excited! I have been a secretary for years, we
finally got rid of the last President, he was so Racist! Don't need that in
a younger child atmosphere!
I already have a lot of Parent signing up to help! More than we ever had in
years!!! I am happy about that! I have so many ideas, and the Director
made sure I was there, I wonder why??? LOL!!
Well, if anyone has any great ideas on how to earn money, I would love to
hear them!
Thanks! I am sooo excited to help out my son and his little friends!
