In regards to the "partially angry post". =) My name is Lara and I am the same
age as you are... anyways...i'll be brief but i have had (just within the past
year and few months) some weird cases of rapid heart beat and even a panic
attack as they called it after doing all other kinds of tests and not fnding
anything. they prescribed me xanax to take if having any panicked feelings but a
very small dose (.25mg). anyways...after doing some research i found this mvp
site and didn't know what it was all about. but after reading it i realized that
all of the symptoms fit me! i went from drinking caffeine whenever i wanted to
and taking pseudoephedrine for colds all the time to not being able to take
anything like that at all (not even a sip of soda!!!) because it makes my heart
race and feel weird and insomnia etc etc. I am healthy, eat right, work out at
the gym 4 times a week, and have had similar routine for years. needless to say
this through me off course! i asked my mom about MVP
and she told me that my aunt has it! so i decided to do the echo knowing full
well that it is not always accurate. when they told me that i "didn't have it" i
assumed ok i probably don't have it and if I do have it, it must be a mild
case...so i haven't done anything about it, other than that. well, i recently
had a brief brief convo with my doctor about mvp and "symptoms" and he did tell
me that he "doesn't know how he feels about it"..in other words, he was kinda
telling me that he is not saying their is or isnt proof one way or another. and
he kinda alluded to the whole "mvp doesn't CAUSE these symptoms, but they are
related in some fashion". anyways... does anyone know if its safe to say that
these "symptoms" since i dont seem to be the type who needs meds when i go to
the dentist, but maybe the symptoms are the same as anyone else who suffers from
anxiety. in other words, could someone with simple anxiety benefit from the meds
that ppl with MVP take for their "symptoms'? i ask
only because i still have to take xanax from time to time ( i'd say 1 -2 pills
a week). i have kicked caffeine completely out of my diet, which is fine with
me, and the only thng that stinks is with my terrible allergies- not being able
to take pseudoephedrine. oh...the other thing i noticed is i can't use numbing
agents that have ephedrine in them at all (used to prolong the effects of the
numbing and also cease bleeding better). i had a tiny birthmark removed and had
no idea ppl use ephedrine in that and an hour later i was all dizzy and felt
terribly weird and called and they said are you allergic to ephedrine....well
this is the same stuff i've had every time i've had a cavity filled and never
had a problem with it until this past year! any thoughts/comments?

Ongoing Fun fun fun! Sorry but this is a partially angry post.
So, I went to the cardiologist for the Consultation with all the
results. He marches his little foreign ass into the office rattling
off where I can't understand him and at that point I had had it. I
told him to slow down, speak English and tell me so that I could
understand what was going on. He actually smiled like a smart ass
like how dare I question him.
He said that everything was structurally normal and again asked me if
I had known I had mitral valve prolapse. I told him again as I had
told him during the echo that until I had gone home that night I
didn't even know what it was since he wasn't very forthcoming with an
explanation.
I then told him about the incident that I had the night before when I
exercised and that how 5 hours later my heart rate was still above
100. He smirked again like he didn't believe me and said that well
why did I do that if my heart rate was so high and that he would have
to see that for himself. I was pissed! Here I am a 28-year-old adult
and this guy is condescending and rude.
He said that he could prescribe a calcium channel blocker "if I
wanted". I looked at him stunned and said that I was not the doctor
and that I didn't even know what that was and that I had no intention
of taking a heart medication under these circumstances on a "whim".
He said that he would order a treadmill test and for me to come back.
I left the office fuming and set up the appointment for next Friday
but I have no intention of going back there. I also requested a copy
of the results from the holter and the echo. The holter test showed
overall normal with 6 Supraventricular Ectopy Beats lasting a second
each. It also showed two SVE's (Skipped beats) that lasted 2 seconds
each. I wonder if that could have been what started that episode
that I had in December.. could I have had a skipped beat that lasted
2-3 seconds and then my heart raced to try and catch up?
While I was reading through it he has progress notes with a patient
history… He says that I have a history of anxiety... wrong…. never
had it before... He also says that I have NO history of headaches…
funny what were those incapacitating ones that I've had since I was
five and was diagnosed with MIGRAINES! Under the list of Meds he put
two down… none of the ones I take for Migraines. He put on there that
I have a history of indigestion…since when?!?
Ohh he makes me furious and I am not in any way impressed or
comfortable with his observations. I had a secondary appointment
already set up with another cardiologist, this one who works for a
heart institute so I went totally disgusted expecting to get treated
the same and while they were a little rushed the doctor himself was
very kind and so we start over. I am to go in for another Holter and
another echo late this month. He said not to worry too much and that
we would get to the bottom of this. He made me feel like I wasn't an
idiot. I also had an appointment with a Psych Nurse practitioner.
She had me fill out a few forms and said finally that she thinks I
may be slightly depressed and thought I would benefit from a short
course of Paxil. I agreed with her because I think what the heck can
it hurt?… She also upped the dosage of Ativan to 1 mg saying that .5
mg was way too low.
So anyway, that's where everything stands with me.
